Top Tips on Getting to Know Your Housemates
Living in halls is a big change from home but that doesn't mean you can't have the best time and make some amazing memories!
This is a great opportunity to meet new people and develop your social life whilst learning to live independently. You'll be spending most of your time with your flatmates, so it's important that you all get along during your stay and make the effort to get to know each other.
Here are some of our top tips on getting to know your housemates:
Start a group chat
Starting a group chat is a your first port of call for learning more about each other. You can share your thoughts, organise activities and send your favourite memes to get the conversation flowing.
Get out and about
If you're looking to bond with your new flatmates, a good idea is to organise fun activities outside of the flat. Whether that's by going bowling, getting a nice meal or simply going for a walk. What better way to reward yourself for all of your hard work!
Have a movie night
Instead of buying a cinema ticket, why not plan a movie night in? Whether you're on a budget or just fancy a night in the flat, having a movie night together is a great way to spend some quality time laughing, crying and jumping at your favourite films. Remember to stock up on popcorn!
Stay open-minded
It's worth considering that some of your flatmates just won't be your cup of tea and not everyone will become a close friend. To keep the peace and avoid any awkward tension in the flat, it's important to stay open-minded and try to make the effort to continue to get to know them and make them feel welcome in their own living space.
Find common interests
You can learn a lot about someone by asking questions about their likes and dislikes. This way, you can discover common interests and hobbies. Try sharing your favourite music, films and food with your flatmates so you can start organising activities that you all enjoy like visiting good restaurants or going to a gig together.
Be there for each other
Remember that you're all going through the same experience and can relate to the same thoughts and feelings. Having others to talk to can ease your mind and you can all be a great support network for each other. Comfort each other during the difficult times and celebrate your achievements!
Your halls is your new home, the least you could do is make it a happy one.
