Passfield Hall FAQs
We're looking forward to welcoming you to halls very soon!
Before you arrive at your new home, we've put together all the FAQs we've been asked by students, from things you need to know before you move in, to what it's like living in London as a student.
Check them out below ⬇️
Before you arrive

No, room numbers and roommate information will be provided on the day of check-in due to data protection laws.
The hall provides a pillow, mattress protector, and mattress. Students need to buy their own linen and bed sheets.
Students can arrive early, but you will need to book an early arrival on the LSE Accommodation System account.

Students can join the group through the provided QR code or link during the Welcome Webinar. If you weren't able to attend the Welcome Webinar, email us at residential.life@lse.ac.uk. In the kitchens, you have access to a toaster, microwave, kettle, and a cooker (oven not included). You can do everything except use the oven.
Walking is highly recommended and takes only about 15 minutes through lovely parks. However, you can also use the tube, bus, cycle, rollerblade, or skateboard. Be aware of the central London location when choosing public transport options.
Students can make a reservation to stay during Winter and Spring breaks. However, they need to take most of their belongings home. A medium-sized suitcase can be stored, but there are limited storage facilities for additional luggage.
One guest per night is allowed, but not at the beginning of the term in the first 14 days. Guests stay in the student's room, and longer stays of three days or more require permission from the warden. Shared room occupants need to obtain consent from their roommates before having guests.
Laundry is operated through an app called Wash Station. A wash costs around £2.80, and drying costs £1.40.
Events include boat parties, discounted West End shows, day trips to various places, creative activities, and more. Make sure you follow ResLife on Instagram, join the hall's WhatsApp group chat and open the monthly ResLife What's On newsletters during term time to not miss out on any fun events.
Each room has a sink with a mirror above it, and usually, the wardrobe doors have long mirrors. There are also additional storage options under the bed.
Living in halls
LSE has a welcome page covering various aspects of student life, including pre-arrival checklists, visa advice, and dealing with homesickness. Student Service teams provide support throughout your time at LSE. You can also join extracurricular activities through the Students' Union.
Yes, you can have a mini-fridge in your room at Passfield Hall. There is a charge of £20 per term for this service.
Kitchens are shared with around 30 students, but remember that Passfield Hall is catered, so kitchen use is limited for quick snacks.
Students can bring electrical appliances but should have them tested for safety and compatibility with UK voltage. There are some restrictions on appliances, so do please with your reception team.
Most events in the hall are limited in terms of alcohol consumption. Remember that the legal drinking age in the UK is 18. Smoking is not allowed in any building in the UK, including Passfield Hall.
We advise keeping the layout as it is for fire safety reasons.
Room changes are possible after the first two weeks, depending on availability. Students can upgrade or swap rooms, but changes are subject to availability. You can also swap rooms in the same hall or between LSE halls (more information will be shared on the WhatsApp group chat for the hall at the start of the new academic year).
To avoid conflicts, students should familiarize themselves with the "Code of Conduct for Sharers" in the hall's handbook. It is essential to have open conversations with roommates, set shared space rules, and discuss conflict resolution methods early on. If conflicts persist, students can seek support from the subwardens or wardens, who can facilitate mediation meetings if needed.
Living in London
Bloomsbury is a safe area, but as it's in central London, students should remain vigilant and avoid using mobile phones on the streets to prevent theft.
Students can register with the Phillips Medical Centre on campus or find other GPs nearby using the NHS website.
