Most scenic walks in London

See all the best views of the city with these walking routes.

London can be quite daunting at times simply because of the sheer amount of things to do (and see). While you can explore and get lost in it all, we'd recommend starting with one of these walking routes to not miss out on the key sights and get a good feel of the city.

a long bridge over some water

The stretch of the River Thames that runs through the city has the advantage of having some of the biggest sights for your eyeballs to enjoy. You have both the south bank and north bank to give a go but we'd say the 20-odd miles between Hampton Court and Albert Bridge (on the north bank) has the most to offer. The full Thames path is obviously huge, so you can break it down into multiple walks. Just follow the signs and take plenty of snaps along the way.

Take advantage of London's greatest park which is only four miles from the centre. You'll find a good combination of open fields, woodlands and panoramic views. Take your time and climb up Parlament Hill if you want to get the best views of the city. Next time the sun decides to show up, have a leisurely stroll through the park and take a picnic basket along, you won't regret it!

The Jubilee Walkway is one of the smaller walks on the list (15 miles broken down into even smaller loops) but ticks all the boxes for newcomers and sightseers alike. If you consider yourself either of them then this is the walk for you! You will pass by all the mega landmarks if you go for the City Loop or the Jubilee Loop. Yes, there won't be much nature but it makes up for it with all the beautiful architecture.

On the other hand, if you really need to escape the city vibes (without actually leaving the city) then you should try the Parkland Walk for your best chance to see a bunch of wildlife. The area is known for having a large variety of animal and plant life, there's even a chance of spotting a herd of deer. It should only take you around 2.5 hours to complete so it's the perfect walk to fit into your busy schedule.

Don't miss out on one of the best views you can get in the city on Richmond Hill. It's protected by an act of Parliament and when you see it you'll know why. This is located in south-west London and if you plan it right, you can end your day exploring Ham House and its gardens. For the art lovers out there, you will find lots of gorgeous pieces there too so you won't be disappointed.

There are plenty more walks you can do around London, but our top picks will satisfy all kinds of walkers out there. Share your most scenic snaps with us @lsereslife.
