Staying Safe with Alcohol

By AccommodationTeam 05 Jul 2022

While at The University of Sheffield, we want to make sure you have the best time possible and whilst some students see drinking as an essential part of the university experience, it’s important to be aware of the reasons why drinking excessively can be bad for you.

Therefore it’s important to know your limits and follow these useful tips:

  • Eat a substantial meal before you go out drinking

  • Plan how to get home in advance

  • Travel home with friends

  • Alternate alcoholic drinks with non-alcoholic drinks

  • Don’t pressure your friends into having another drink, or be pressured by them

If you are concerned about yours or someone else’s alcohol use, consider accessing the support options below:

If you are concerned that someone is in danger, at risk of harm, and needs immediate assistance, call University Security on 0114 222 4085 (0114 222 4444 in the case of an emergency - or 999).

Remember, you can always arrange to speak to your Residence Life Mentor or attend the Residence Life Mentor Drop-in.

You can also arrange to speak to a Student Support and Wellbeing Officer at Residence Life via email at residentsupport@sheffield.ac.uk. If you want to know more about the rules and regulations related to alcohol, check out our companion article: Alcohol and your accommodation.
