We are proud to be an inclusive, tolerant and diverse community. Residence Life Mentors (RLMs) are approachable and friendly students from the UK and the rest of the world, who deliver the Residence Life peer mentoring scheme in University accommodation. Most of them are continuing students so they're familiar with the Residences, the University and, the city of Sheffield, as well as the services available.
Residence Life Mentors are available at Community Café, online and in-person, every evening during term time.
Community Café is between 8.30pm - 9:45pm in person at The Edge Hub, The Ridge Common Room, Allen Court Common Room and St Vincent's Common Room.
The Conduct Team are available Monday afternoons and Tuesday mornings every week (term time). If you would like to find out more about our disciplinary processes, reporting options or educational work that we do, please book one of our appointment slots and one of our team will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
If you’re feeling down, overwhelmed or struggling to adjust to student life, come and talk to a Residence Life Student Support Manager who can offer specific one-to-one support to help you manage and make sense of what you’re experiencing.
Meet our Teams!
The Residence Life team are here to help you have the best student residential experience possible. We have three teams who work hard year round to provide you with a safe and inclusive community; Support and Wellbeing, Engagement and Development and Conduct.
Moving to University can be one of the best and scariest times of your life. Our Student Support Managers are here to make that transition as smooth as possible. They are trained in Mental Health First Aid, safeguarding and ASSIST and are qualified Sexual Violence Liaison Officers (SVLO’s). They offer on-call provision and liaise with other departments across the University to ensure that you get the right support.
Meet your Student Support Managers here
Our Student Support Managers manage the Residence Life Mentors (RLM's). Mentors are experienced students who offer peer support to students during their time in University accommodation. RLMs can help with emotional issues, academic worries, disagreements among flatmates, or are simply available when students just need to talk to someone.

Life in residences can also have its challenges, and the work of the Student Conduct Officers focuses on the discipline and conduct side of things. What we consider ‘misconduct’ in University accommodation can include any kind of behaviour that might be antisocial or dangerous, either to the residence itself, to you, or to the people around you. The conduct team looks into these issues, investigating reports, meeting with students, and imposing penalties where we determine misconduct has taken place.
The work we do helps to make life in our accommodation better for everyone, so please do call on Security and your Residence Life Mentors to report any issues you experience in accommodation.
Our articles will help answer any questions you have about the conduct process.
