How to...Travel in Sheffield

By epickersgill 04 Jul 2023

If you are new to Sheffield, or even new to using public transport, it can feel a bit daunting trying to get from A to B. However, Sheffield has a good transport system and many options to help you get about. We have two different bus companies covering the major routes (First Buses and Stagecoach) and we have the Supertram (which covers specific areas). Uber also covers Sheffield - along with other local taxi companies - and you may even want to cycle to campus!

Journey Planner
The best way to find out how to get somewhere is through a journey planner. You can get journey planning advice on how to get around on Sheffield’s public transport from Travel South Yorkshire via https://journeyplanner.travelsouthyorkshire.com/.
Ticket Prices

The most cost effective bus ticket available in South Yorkshire is the 80p single, for people aged between 18 and 21 who have a Zoom Beyond Card, further details here. Without the Zoom Beyond card, students can buy a single for £1.20 on First and Stagecoach buses if they show their U-Card.

As a student in Sheffield, you can get discount travel tickets; so if you do need to get public transport, you could save money. You can find more information about this from Travel South Yorkshire via https://travelsouthyorkshire.com/en-gb/ticketsandpasses/student-tickets.

Remember, if you have any questions, you can always arrange to speak to your Residence Life Mentor or attend the Residence Life Mentor Drop-in.
