How to...Move out of your accommodation
With the end of term nearly upon us, and once you've got your exams out of the way, it's time to think about moving out of your accommodation.
There are a few things you'll need to consider:
- returning your keys (including fobs and cycle store keys)
- make sure your room is clean so you get your deposit back
- what you can do with unwanted items
First and foremost, you'll want to get your deposit back, which means your flat (your bedroom, shared kitchen space, and en-suite or shared bathroom) needs to be in clean and tidy order. Make sure all the surfaces in your kitchen, bedroom and bathroom have been cleaned and wiped down, hoover or mop the floors, take the bins out, and don't forget to check things like the inside of your oven and microwave.
See our video at the bottom of this article for kitchen cleaning tips!
Keys & belongings
Where should I return my keys?
- Allen Court residents - Allen Court Customer Services
- St Vincent's residents - St Vincent's reception
- Other City Residences - Key drop boxes are located in the flat lobbies so your keys can be placed here upon leaving your accommodation or alternatively returned to The Edge Customer Services.
- Ranmoor/Endcliffe - The Edge Customer Services
Please note - Allen Court residents need to return their post box keys with the flat keys.
What if my room is empty and I'm not returning, but I still have the keys/fobs?
Not a problem, you can post your keys to us! They must be in a secure, padded envelope and sent by recorded or special delivery.
- Allen Court - FAO The Manager, Allen Court Reception, 10 St.Georges Close, Sheffield, S3 7HB
- All other properties - The Edge Reception, 34 Endcliffe Crescent, Sheffield, S10 3ED
Donating unwanted items
Certain items can be donated to our charity partners via our Donate, Don't Waste scheme, you can read more about that here.
Changing your address
Before you move out we recommend you update any accounts where you have your University accommodation address saved (such as Amazon, ASOS etc), as unfortunately, we are unable to forward any mail or parcels that get delivered to your current address.
