Where to supermarket shop as a student at Queen Mary

Hi, everyone, we have made a concise list of the best supermarkets to do your weekly shopping with accompanying Google ratings and walking distances from your Halls of Residence.

Mile End / Stocks & Sherren:

Lidl (Mile End: 1.1 miles, Stocks Court and Sherren House: 1.3 miles)
Great for general shopping and the cheapest option, however, it's relatively far away from campus and will take a while to travel to and back.
Received a 4.1 ⭐️

Asda (Mile End: 0.9 miles, Stocks Court and Sherren House: 0.3 miles)
The runner-up to Lidl with fairly competitive prices on most items but specific items such as condiments can be quite expensive in comparison to Lidl.
Received a 3.8 ⭐️

Sainsbury's local (Mile End: 0.2 miles, Stocks Court: 0.1 miles, Sherren House: 0.3 miles)
Good for the occasional item but overall is quite expensive compared to the others.
Received a 3.1 ⭐️

Co-op (Mile End: 0.4 miles, Stocks Court: 0.7 miles, Sherren House: 0.8 miles):
Convenient, and good for snacks and meal deals, but other than, that it's quite expensive for general items. Received a 3.0 ⭐️

Blithehale Court:

Iceland (0.3 miles)
It’s a great supermarket for frozen food if you have the freezer space, however other than frozen food other items are the standard rate.
Received a 4.0 ⭐️

Tesco Express (0.4 miles)
Good prices but most are locked behind the Tesco Clubcard, make sure to have it ready at the checkout!
Received a 2.8-4.2 ⭐️

Sainsbury's superstore (0.4 miles)
A much wider range of options compared to the local branches and has an in-store Argos to order cooking utensils from.
Received a 3.7 ⭐️

Sainsbury’s local (0.1 miles)
Good for the occasional item but overall is quite expensive compared to the others.
Received a 3.1 ⭐️

Aspire point:

Sainsbury's local (0.7 miles)
Good for the occasional item but overall is quite expensive compared to the others.
Received a 3.5 ⭐️

Tesco Express (0.1 miles):
Good prices but most are locked behind the Tesco Clubcard make sure to have it ready at the checkout!
Received a 2.7-4.2 ⭐️

Floyer house:

Sainsbury's superstore (0.4 miles)

A smart supermarket that has a focus on fresh produce which is a bit more pricey than the others it tends to be higher quality and the store utilises Dash carts as a form of convenience that scam your items for you.
Received a 4.3 ⭐️

Budgens (0.3 miles)
Pricey yet convenient with a wide range of meat with in-store butcher.
Received a 2.6 ⭐️

Dawson Hall:

Tesco Express (0.1 miles)
Good prices but most are locked behind the Tesco Clubcard, make sure to have it ready at the checkout!
Received ratings varying from 2.8-3.5 ⭐️

Waitrose (0.3 miles)
High-quality food but pricey, however, Waitrose is good for certain items such as fruit and veg specifically and at one time was the cheapest store to buy eggs.
Received a 4.3 ⭐️

Lodos supermarket (0.3 miles)
Local supermarket store with surprisingly varied products with reasonable prices, good to buy fresh fruits and vegetables.
It received a high local rating of 4.1 ⭐️
