Residential Life
The best walks right on your doorstep
Going for a walk has lots of benefits for both your mental and physical health!
And despite London's massive urban area, there are plenty of scenic routes full of greenery that can offer a tranquil walk if you need an hour or so away from your computer screen.
Take a look at our favourites here!
Mile End Park
Located next to campus this park is right on your doorstep located just the other side of the Canal to Queen Mary University (a 10-minute walk from QMUL Mile End Campus to Mile End Park). The park follows the Regent's Canal from Victoria Park to Limehouse Basin, and is separated from the southern edge of Victoria Park by the Hertford Union Canal.
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
The Olympic Park is one of the best if you want to see some pretty cool artwork that you wouldn't usually see in a park. 30 minutes on the 339 bus from Mile End Regents Canal (Stop E) or only a 15-minute walk from Aspire Point. The Park is open to visitors, with the parklands and canal paths still accessible to all, seven days a week with some cafes still offering takeaway drinks service, perfect to spend a sunny winters day - just wrap up warm!
Stepney Green Park
Another green space right on your doorstep, Stepney Green Park is a 13-minute walk from QMUL down Mile End Road and has 4.62 hectares of space to roam around. There are also astroturf pitches which you can book, however, due to the pandemic they are not taking bookings at the moment, but hopefully, once this is over it's something to look forward to booking with a group of friends.
Victoria Park
Victoria Park is still open to the public, the cafe shops are offering takeaway hot drinks and there are public toilets available. The park is a 20-minute walk via Towpath or Grove Road and is very picturesque no matter the weather. Stretch your legs for a quick hour walk or put on your favourite podcast or playlist and enjoy your time around the park.
Meath Gardens
Meath Gardens was formerly the Victoria Park Cemetery but after it fell into disuse it was reponed at Meath Gardens. There are football and basketball facilities, which after the pandemic you'll be able to book for a nice summers day. It's only a 12-minute walk via Bancroft Road, who knew you had all this green space just a stone's throw away!
Weavers Fields
Weavers Field is the largest open space in the western part of the borough and is a 16-minute walk from Floyer House. With so much space there's so much to see, it even has a self-guided nature trail guide which you can download here. Plus what great views of the amazing architecture of Londons skyscrapers.
