A week of ResLife events
A week filled with delicious drinks and mouth-watering bakes; let's take a closer look into last week's ResLife events and the fun moments they brought.
With the 2023/24 academic year in full swing, ResLife events continue to provide opportunities for fun and laughter amongst the commitments of lectures and assignments. Last week, we saw a whole range of events being hosted, from a Bowling evening to a Bob Ross Paint-A-Long. Yet, the highlights of the week were undeniably the Cocktail and Mocktail Masterclass and The Great Bath Bake Off. Here, eight households competed to whisk, bake, and decorate their way to win a prize for their house. These events were expertly coordinated by the dedicated ResLife Ambassadors, ensuring everyone had a blast. Let's take a closer look at these memorable events.
Cocktail and Mocktail Masterclass
Last Friday marked the debut of the ResLife Cocktail and Mocktail Masterclass. All the necessary ingredients were provided, making it a hassle-free experience for all students. Under the guidance of the ResLife Ambassadors, participants got to make three drinks, including two mocktails and one cocktail, ensuring inclusivity for both drinkers and non-drinkers. The first concoction on the list was the Sparkling Orange Surprise Mocktail. The surprise came when students added grenadine into the drink, resulting in a captivating sunrise effect that delighted both the eyes and the taste buds!
The second drink was an Appletini Mocktail, which the students enjoyed using the cocktail shaker to create. Last but certainly not least, they tackled the Classic Margarita, learning how to craft this popular cocktail. With the newfound expertise from this event, students can now treat themselves and their housemates to these delightful drinks. Overall, a fantastic event worth savouring.
The Great Bath Bake Off
To end the week, we hosted our version of The Great British Bake Off. This event proved a resounding success, with eight households and over 50 students competing for cake supremacy. For fans of The Great British Bake Off, this event resembled the show's 'Technical Challenge'. On the day of the event, households received instructions for a chocolate cake recipe, and were supplied with all the essential ingredients and equipment to make it. They then had two hours to bake and decorate their cake, before gathering in the ResLife Support Lounge for judging.
We were thoroughly impressed by the exceptional standard of the chocolate cakes, both in appearance and taste. The participating households showed remarkable teamwork and it was clear they were all in it to win it! The hard work of our ResLife Ambassadors ensured the event's success, as they offered valuable support to students and ensured an enjoyable experience for all. Congratulations to all the households that took part, with a special mention to Eastwood 44, who were the winners of the event and earned a Bowling Trip prize for their entire house. Their raspberry coulis paired with the rich, moist chocolate cake and smooth buttercream wowed us. The win was well deserved.
