Our LGBTQ+ accommodation

By ResLifeKatie 26 Feb 2024

Did you know that we offer LGBTQ+ accommodations on campus? We’re here to tell you more

We value diversity and inclusivity in our accommodation, and believe that everyone deserves to have a home that is a safe space where they can feel comfortable. That’s why we offer our LGBTQ+ accommodation, so that you can have the opportunity to live with students who share your community.

Not all students who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community decide to choose this preference when applying, which is fine, but some find it the best choice for them.

Read about current student Lyra’s experience below:

Personally, I am very grateful to have been given the opportunity for LGBTQ+ accommodation. I often struggle to make friends in a room of random people like a class but living in LGBTQ+ accommodation allowed me to meet people with similar interests and experiences to me very easily, as well as providing a sense of belonging and community with the people I live with, as well as those in the surrounding flats. Everyone in my flat was so welcoming and friendly when we met, and it didn't take long for us to become an inseparable group of friends. Living with people like me and living so close to other flats of like-minded people, I have made powerful friendships that I know will last much longer than just my time at university. LGBTQ+ accommodation is also part of why I feel so safe living on campus at university, as I know my flat mates and friends in the surrounding flats all have my back. My main tip to any new students in LGBTQ+ accommodation is to make a group chat with the other LGBTQ+ people in the surrounding flats and organise things to do together, like a movie night, club night or just a get-together; it will really help towards making some lifelong friendships.

Our LGBTQ+ accommodation is currently offered in Marlborough and Solsbury Court, and Norwood House.

When you are completing your accommodation application and selecting your options, you will be able to request LGBTQ+ housing as an additional preference. This is alongside our other preference options of quiet, alcohol free, and accommodation for mature students.

If you have any questions about your application or your additional preference options, you can get in touch with the team at reslife@bath.ac.uk

There is more information on our LGBTQ+ accommodation and how to apply on the university website.
