Not going home for Christmas? We've got you!
Christmas is THE time of year to be full of holiday cheer.
That could mean stuffing your face with mince pies or wearing that itchy reindeer jumper you secretly love...
Just because you’re not going home for the holidays, this doesn't mean that you have to miss out on the festivities and turning into Scrooge. There are tons of Christmassy things that you can get stuck into whilst living in halls.
1. Put up some decorations
Turn your halls into a winter wonderland by making your own Christmas wreath and decorating a tree that Buddy the Elf would be proud of. The sky is the limit with decorations, so don’t be afraid to go over the top. Don't make any permanent damage though!
2. Visit a Christmas market
No one is too young to hop on a carousel, so get down to the Christmas market and give it a whirl. It’s a fab opportunity to buy all kinds of Christmas gifts, and even give German cuisine a try. Don’t miss out on this experience, otherwise, you’ll have to wait another year.
3. Bake some Christmas goodies
If you’re planning on overindulging sweets the whole Christmas period, then get the oven mitts out and get baking. They make perfect Christmas presents for students on a budget too.
4. Have Christmas dinner
Since you’re technically an adult now, it’s time you get used to adulting. This involves perfecting the craft of cooking a Christmas dinner. Seen as it might be just you eating it, it doesn’t need to be perfect or huge, and once you master getting everything on the plate at the same temperature, you’ve pretty much smashed it!
5. Wear an ugly Christmas jumper
It might be itchy, ugly and jingly but everyone at some point wears an ugly Christmas jumper. This is the time to take pride in your woollies and really capture the spirit of Christmas. Why not challenge your friends to see who has the worst fluffy jumper?
6. Do some volunteering
Some people aren’t as fortunate over Christmas, and it can be a difficult time for them. Giving back to others is not only easy to do but also puts a smile on their face. Help out at a homeless shelter or do some Christmas related fundraising to lift spirits.
7. Wrap your presents
Wrapping gifts for your loved ones should be treated as an art, and they don’t deserve presents wrapped up in tin foil. Treat them to fancy paper, and if you’re feeling like a true master, wrap it all up in a bow. Being apart isn't nice but receiving your gift will put a smile on their face.
8. Build a snowman
Good luck finding any snow in the UK - however, if we do get a white Christmas, head outside and build a snowman! You're never too old and it's great fun. Until he melts away that is.
It’s not all doom and gloom staying at uni over the holidays, it’s a great opportunity to divulge in everything to do with Santa and co.
Let’s make this the best Christmas yet, and most importantly - Merry Christmas ya filthy animal!
