Moving into your university accommodation is a really exciting step, but it might feel a bit strange to begin with. Don't worry though, there are tons of wallet-friendly tricks you can do to turn your living space into home sweet home. Here are six cheap and easy tips you can follow.

Use photos as decorations

Print out and stick up pics of your family, friends and any awesome memories you make while you're at uni. You could put them in frames, create a cool collage or simply pin them onto your board. You can turn any digital photos on your phone into physical prints using online services like Snapfish.

Add a bit of mood lighting

Hang up fairy lights to create a soft and warm glow in your room. They're cheap, easy to put up, and can instantly make your space feel more homey. You could also grab a desk lamp with adjustable brightness to set up a comfy study corner. It'll not only make your workspace brighter but you could use it as a bedside lamp as well.

Keep things cosy

It's worth investing in some comfy bedding with soft sheets, a snug duvet and/or a mattress topper. It can be on the more expensive side but top-notch bedding will make your place feel super comfy and inviting. You can always use it in the future as well so it won't go to waste.

Toss in some cosy throws and cushions in your favourite colour or pattern. It will make your room more vibrant and give you another chance to make the room your own.

Smell is important too

Add a sweet aroma to your room through air fresheners or reed diffusers. Go for soothing scents like lavender or vanilla to create a super relaxing vibe, or choose a scent that reminds you of home. It will be nice to come back to every day and get a good whiff of a fresh smell.

Plants, plants and more plants

Bring a bit of the outdoors in with some low-maintenance greens. Stuff like succulents, spider plants, or pothos are perfect choices to add some freshness and chill vibes. You could also get crafty and make your own mini terrarium using a glass jar, small plants and pebbles.

A personal touch

Deck out your spot with cool keepsakes like postcards, tickets, or little trinkets. They're like time capsules for special moments and give your place a nice nostalgic vibe. A personal touch could also be your favourite mug or an old t-shirt you could wear around the house. Anything that feels like you will always help.
