Societies, fitness & well-being in Galashiels
There is so much going on at Heriot-Watt that it might be hard to know where to start or who you can talk to. Find everything you need here!
Your full-time officers
Your first point of contact should be the team dedicated to helping you with life at uni. Run by students, for students. Follow the links for the person you want to contact to get more details on email, phone number and what exactly they can do for you:
- Sanjit Krishnakumar (overall uni experience)
- Molly Knight (education)
- Georgia Noble (well-being issues)
- Scott Anderson (societies and volunteering)
Societies (you can start your own!)
If you want to know what exactly a society is and how to join one then head to the student union societies page
You also have the option to start your own society so don't be afraid to give it a go, you might be surprised by just how many other students join. The set up a society page has more information on that process.

Activities for your well-being
It's always good to dedicate a bit of time to your own well-being and mental health but if you're struggling with what that actually entails, then you should try attending a well-being activity. Above is the calendar for the January semester, scan the QR code to sign up for one! One example of an activity coming up soon is the swimming charity ceilidh on the 11th Feb. Taking place at Lauriston Hall, doors open at 7:30 pm, with the band playing at 8:00 pm (tickets are currently £15.50). Check out their Facebook page for more information and how you can get tickets.
Sports and fitness
The hub for all student sports at Heriot-Watt probably has more on offer than you'd think! Football, archery, fencing, cycling, even kayaking and snowsports (and many more!). All sports have the equipment, kit and facilities for both casual and competitive play.
This is a charity-run community focused on keeping everything fit, healthy and happy. They also arrange a lot of events across Galashiels.
Popular with a lot of students is Trifitness, run by live borders. There are big discounts for HW students and is located right by the halls (check out the map below to see exactly where). The Gym has been renovated recently with new equipment too!
If you can't make it in, they run virtual classes too (but also screen these in the studio on the big screen):
Body Combat: 2:00 pm every Wednesday
Body Pump: 2:00 pm every Friday
