Accommodation Guarantee: What Does it Mean?

You may have heard or read that Heriot Watt offer an accommodation guarantee, but what does it actually mean?

If you are a new full-time student, then we guarantee you will get an offer of accommodation either on or off campus in your first year!

You are covered by the guarantee if:

You are a new full time student for a full academic year starting from September
You have a Conditional Firm or Unconditional Firm offer of a place at the University
You reside outside the City of Edinburgh; and
you apply for accommodation online before the closing date of 12:00 midday (BST) on 24 June 2024

We also include the following students in the guarantee:

Direct entrants to year 2 or 3
Students with care experience

You can still apply for accommodation after the 24 June 2024 deadline has passed. Applications received after this date will be offered accommodation subject to availability.

Will I get the guarantee as a Go Global student?

The guarantee for on campus accommodation for Go Global students will close on 22 July 2024. Applications received after this date will only be offered accommodation subject to availability.

Will I get the guarantee as an Exchange student?

Unfortunately, we can't guarantee accommodation for visiting students who are studying with us for just one semester. Accommodation for one semester is subject to availability. You may wish to look at off-campus living options in case we are not able to accommodate you.

Are there rooms for students with disabilities or extra support needs?

There are a number of accessible rooms on campus. Our Disability Service can give you more information.

All students must contact us in advance so that we can assess whether we are able to meet your support and care needs in the residences.

Is there a family accommodation option?

Unfortunately, we don’t have family/couple accommodation on campus, all our rooms are single occupancy. Please see our website to find suitable accommodation off campus. We recommend that you travel to Edinburgh on your own first before making arrangements for your family to join you.
