Murano Street Student Village
How close is the Hall to the University?
Murano is approx. 20 mins walk to the main campus and a 30 mins walk to the city centre.
Is there anyone available out of office hours?
After 6pm there is always a Senior Resident available to help with any problems.
Are there medical facilities near the Hall?
A medical practice, Barclay Medical Practice, is located on The Fraser Building on main campus.
What am I responsible for cleaning?
Everyone is responsible for your own room.
If you have been allocated a large flat, staff will clean the communal areas (kitchens, toilets, showers and corridors) on a weekly basis. You should clear all areas of dishes/belongings etc in order for the staff to carry out this service.
All Residents allocated to small flats are responsible for cleaning all areas of the flat.
Does the residence have student cooking facilities?
Each flat (4/5 persons) has a kitchen with a cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster and kettle.
Each large flat (10/12 persons) has a kitchen with 2 cookers, 2 fridges and freezers, microwave, kettle, toaster.
Ironing equipment and vacuums are also provided in all accommodation.
Are cooking utensils, crockery supplied?
No, you must bring your own.
Can I bring my bike?.
Yes. There are two lockable bike stores situated in the middle of the site. You can obtain the padlock code from reception. All bikes are required to be registered -please contact Reception for details.
You are responsible for making sure that your bike is adequately insured and secured. You can insure your bike as part of your Block Halls policy by going to http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/residentialservices/parents/fees/insurance/
Is there a car park attached to the Hall?
Yes. Ample free parking spaces are available on site and all cars must be registered with reception.
Is there internet/ WiFi in the room?
There is an internet connection and WiFi router in every room. You will receive information regarding connection after your arrival. Internet charges are included in your rent.
WiFi is avialbale in the Study Zone of the Central Services Building.
Can I bring my own TV?
Yes, but it must be fitted with a correctly rated fuse, correctly wired plug and a cable in good order. Students must obtain their own TV license http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk for more details
What is the surrounding area like?
There is a Tesco superstore within 10 mins walk from the Village. The nearby Byres Road community offers shops, banks, a post-office, restaurants, bars and a cinema. A quick tube ride from Byres Road will get you into the city centre. Maryhill Road is also well served with takeaways, newsagents, hairdressers and other local traders.
Can my friends stay overnight?
Unfortunately, due to the current Covid-19 outbreak we have been forced to suspend the overnight guest option in our residences. This will kept under review and will be reintroduced as soon as it is safe to do so.
What happens if I lose my keys?
You must let staff at the Murano Street office asap. Try to avoid carrying your keys with anything that would identify your address. A charge will be made for the replacement key and fob.
What happens to my mail/parcel delivery?
Mail is deivered directly to all the accommodation blocks. Make sure that friends and family have your full address which will be given to you on arrival. No parcels or mail will be accepted at reception or security so if you are expecting a delivery you must make sure you are around to accept it.
Anything else that would be useful for me to bring?
Warm clothing for the winter months.
