Pre-Arrival
It may be possible to arrange a visit by contacting the KHR office on 0141 221 9334. If you arrive for a visit without contacting the office first, we cannot guarantee that there will be a staff member available to show you the accommodation.

Alternatively you can check the University website for a list of University Open days where it may be possible to visit the Residence.
Yes, if accommodation is available. Please email Accommodation Services at accom@glasgow.ac.uk to register your interest and check availability.
Students arriving before the start of the accommodation contract cannot be guaranteed accommodation and you may be required to find alternative accommodation before the start date of the contract.

Key collection for the Kelvinhaugh Residences generally takes place at Cairncross House but Kelvinhaugh Gate may also be used during main arrival periods.
You will find full details on where to collect your keys in the Arrival Information page on the Accommodation Services website.
Please also look out for our pre arrival email on the lead up to your arrival which will advise of the check in process.
There is a private car park on site but anyone wishing to use the private car park during term time must register their car details at reception.
Everything that is needed for independent living! This includes; crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, saucepans, towels. Check out our What to Bring to Uni guide for more info.

Yes, there are lockable bike stores within Kelvinhaugh Residences. All bikes are required to be registered and tagged so please contact Reception for bike store key code.
Please note that all tenants are responsible for making sure that their bicycle is adequately insured and secured. You can insure your bike as part of your Block Halls policy by going to www.endsleigh.co.uk.
Yes, but it must be fitted with a correctly rated fuse, correctly wired plug and a cable in good order. Students must obtain their own TV license. See www.tvlicensing.co.uk for more details.
Students will need to provide their own bedding, bed linen and towels.
If buying bed linen please check that sizes are either UK single or UK double as sometimes sizes will vary according to manufacturer.

Kelvinhaugh Residences are only around 20-minutes on foot from the city centre.

There are local bus services from Sauchiehall Street and Argyle Street which will take you to Byres road, near the University. A few minutes walk from the residences there is a bus stop where there is public transport taking you directly into Glasgow City centre. One provider of this route is First Bus.
If you are under-22 you may also be eligible for free bus travel.
A taxi will cost you approximately £30. If you wish to use public transport it is possible to get a bus from Partick Bus Station to take you to the Airport. Please allow yourself plenty of time to get to the Airport if you choose to use this service. Alternatively there is an airport shuttle bus that will take you directly to the airport from Buchanan Bus Station, a single ticket costs £9 and an open return lasting 28 days is £14.50.
There are several doctors' surgeries near KHR and there is also a medical centre located on the Main Campus.

Cairncross House, Kelvinhaugh Gate, Kelvinhaugh Street are located in the heart of the trendy Kelvinhaugh area and wherever you go, you’ll never be far from art venues, museums, parks, bars, pubs restaurants, shops and much more!

The office telephone number is 0141 221 9334 and is available 24 hours a day.
After 6pm there is always a Residence Life Assistant available to assist with any problems.
The residence also has security based at Cairncross House reception every night from 5pm until 8am that will be happy to assist with any queries you may have.
Kelvinhaugh Residences office is based at Caincross House and is open from 8am - 6pm, Monday to Friday.
The Residence Life Team – pastoral staff members appointed by the University are responsible for the flats outwith office hours.
There are also night security staff based at Cairncross House who are on duty each night from 5pm to 8am.
You will be invited to a site induction and welcome talks where you will meet members of the management and pastoral team and representatives from Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue who will all pass on some helpful hints to ensure you get the most out of your stay.
Yes, Cairncross House, Kelvinhaugh Gate and Kelvinhaugh Street all have their own laundry facilities.

My Room
- In Cairncross House there are ¾ size beds (4ft wide) in the single rooms and single beds in the twin rooms.
- In Kelvinhaugh Gate all rooms have ¾ size beds.
- In Kelvinhaugh Street all rooms have ¾ size beds.
You will receive your full room and address details upon checking in.
Upon arrival, you must complete your room inventory (which will be sent to your email address).
There will be two flat and room inspections carried out during your stay and you will be provided with further information on this when you arrive.
Yes, Wi-Fi is available in Kelvinhaugh Residences and all flats within the residence through Optify. Details on how to set up your internet will be provided on check in.
Any issues with the internet should be raised with Optify directly. You can report your issues directly to Optify, 24 hours a day 7 days a week, by contacting;

No, your contract includes holiday periods, you do not have to remove your belongings.
Yes, outside of arrivals weekend and Freshers Week, you are able to invite a friend to stay overnight in your bedroom for a maximum of three nights, per calendar month, free of charge.
Please refer to the Accommodation Services Overnight Guest policy and procedure for more info.
Please note that overnight guests are not permitted during Freshers' Week and Arrivals Weekend.
You must let staff at reception at Cairncross House know. Please try to avoid carrying your keys with anything that would identify your address. A charge will be made for the replacement key and fob.
- Residents staying in Kelvinhaugh Street and Kelvinhaugh Gate will have mail posted directly to their flat.
- Reception will only accept mail / parcels received for residents staying in Cairncross House who do not have a letter box and will be able to collect any mail / parcels delivered from there.
Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that you make proper arrangements for delivery and Sanctuary Students accepts no responsibility for any damage caused to mail / parcels that are delivered.
All repairs must be reported to the office and staff will take appropriate action.
In an emergency outside of office hours you should contact the duty Residence Life Assistant who will call the relevant member of the maintenance team. This is in an extreme emergency only.
If the repair is non-urgent and the office is closed please complete an on-line repair form.
This is dependent on whether or not your flat receives a weekly service but either way, you are responsible for cleaning your own bedroom and keeping all shared areas such as kitchen, toilets and shower clean and tidy throughout the week.
University of Glasgow has arranged contents insurance cover for you with Endsleigh, the number 1 student insurance provider.
Input your policy number HH1357 at www.endsleigh.co.uk to check your policy details. Here you will find more information on how to check what is covered, some key exclusions and limitations, how to check your policy excess, how to extend and personalise your cover and most importantly, how to make a claim.
Room Transfer forms will be available from 9am on the Monday of Freshers Week. The transfer form will be available on your accommodation account, this is the on- line portal you used when creating your application. You will need your user name and password in order to log on.

It may be possible to extend over the summer months, but places are limited. You will be asked to complete a form in third term indicating that you wish to extend. Please note that you may be required to move flat.
My Kitchen
All the kitchens at Cairncross House, Kelvinhaugh Gate and Kelvinhaugh Street are well-equipped with: cooker; fridge-freezer; microwave; kettle; toaster; breakfast bar; and individual shelf space.
No, crockery etc. is not supplied by the University. We do supply an iron, ironing board, vacuum cleaner, brush, shovel, mop and bucket.
You have two plastic boxes in your flat (black or grey, with handles) that are for your recycling. These can then be taken to the blue recycling bins which are situated near each block. Paper, cans, tins and plastic bottles can all be recycled in these.
There is also a navy blue bin at each block which is for clean glass, and a grey bin for food waste.

Accommodation Fees
All of your accommodation fees are paid through your MyCampus account.
The main options for paying your accommodation fees are Direct Debit, Monthly Payment Plan or via a single one-off payment.
Just remember to make arrangements to set up your payment plan immediately to ensure that you are on time for the first instalment that is due in October.

Yes, all heating, hot water and electricity, and internet is included in your rent.
