Should I join a club/society at university?
Going away to university means you'll be experiencing new things on a daily basis so it's the perfect chance to try something new!
Joining a club or society can offer so much more than just a hobby during your studies. There are loads of benefits!
✅ Meeting new people from around the world
✅ Getting fit and active
✅ Improving a skill
✅ Finding a hidden talent
✅ Building a support network of friends
✅ Great addition to your CV
The best thing is, there's always something for everybody when it comes to clubs and societies. Whether you're into Harry Potter, niche sports or crocheting, you'll no doubt be able to find one that suits you!
How do I get involved in societies at my uni?
There will be loads of clubs and societies to join at your university and you can do this by going to your Students' Union or visiting the SU website where you will find a full list of societies or clubs available to you and how to join.
What if there's no society for the thing I want to get involved in?
Go to the Student Union and ask whether you can start your own! Processes may vary per university but usually, as long as you can get a small group of people that want to join, you can create and manage your own.
Is it too late to join societies after first year?
No! It doesn't matter which year you're heading into - even if you're studying medicine and are in your fifth year of study, there's always time to join a society and get all the great benefits.
Putting yourself out there and getting involved in new experiences may seem a little daunting at first but taking the plunge and finding something you really enjoy is well worth it!
