If you have any questions before you move in, it's best to take a look at your accommodation webpage, or you can click here to visit our FAQ page which covers everything from arrival prep information, to what to do once you've moved in.
To get you started, we've put together just a few bits of essential info.
Guest Policy
Guest Policy Visitors are welcome and can stay for two consecutive nights a week, but they'll need to sign in when they arrive for fire safety.
Post and Parcels
Any post you get will be delivered directly to your halls. You can collect letters and smaller items from your post box, and larger items will be sent to reception.
If you do get any parcels, make sure you bring your student ID with you when you come to collect them!
We also have Amazon Lockers around a number of our sites, offering click-and-collect services. These sites are:
- Murano Street
- Belmont - which also covers Heathfield, Seabraes and West Park
- Denmark Road
- Grafton Street
- Dinwiddy House
- Paul Robeson
- Lilian Knowles
- Alliance House
If your site isn't listed, then there might still be lockers available to use near you. To find your nearest Amazon Locker, click here.
Insurance
We offer contents insurance for all students living in a Sanctuary Students accommodation. This insurance covers a range of possessions within your accommodation and is provided by Cover4Students.
We recommend that you take a look at your policy so that you can see exactly what's covered, as some people might find that they need more cover than what's already provided. To find out more about your cover, click here.
Reporting Maintenance
You can report a repair either at reception or online. For emergency repairs, you can also call your site's 24-hour number which you can find at reception or in your resident's guide.
To report maintenance issues online, visit the Report a Repair webpage.
Laundry
Our laundry services are provided by Circuit Laundry, and you can pay for your washing using either a Laundry Card or the Circuit App on iOS or Android.
To find out more about doing your laundry here at Sanctuary Students, have a read through our Laundry Guide.
Inspections
We have 3 inspections a year, once per term. We usually check the kitchen and communal area in your flat, but we'll let you know when we're planning on visiting.
If your flat is found unclean or untidy, we'll let you know over email and send over an inspection report. We'll also ask that you clean up within a certain time period, otherwise we'll send in our own cleaners which you'll be charged for.
Bins and Recycling
Sustainability is important to us, across all our sites. This is why all of our student properties follow their own initiatives and programmes that you can take part in to make sure you're doing what you can to reduce your environmental impact.
Recycling facilities will be available on-site and in your kitchens. To empty your bedroom, kitchen, food and recycling bins, use the large bins located outside your accommodation.
To find out the specific information related to your accommodation building make sure you have a look at your Resident's Guide!
Registering with a doctor or dentist
It's best to register with your GP at the start of the year, or just before you arrive. Which doctor you choose to register with is down to you, and will usually depend on whereabouts you're based. Some universities offer their own healthcare services, so make sure you take a look at your university healthcare advice pages.
If you're looking to find out which GP services are near you, click here to go to the NHS GP finder webpage.
You'll need to be registered with a GP before you can register with a dental practice so that you have an NHS number registered. Once you've done that, then you'll be able to choose which dentist you register with depending on their availability. You can find information on dental practices near you here.
Meningitis
We want you to make the most of your time at uni, but to do this it's important to make sure you're healthy. One way to do this is by making sure you've received the MenACWY vaccine which prevents meningitis and septicaemia.
The vaccine is usually offered to students in secondary school, but it's important to just double-check with your healthcare provider before you get here, as these viruses' can be deadly.
Before uni, ask your doctor if you've had:
- The MenACWY vaccine.
- Two doses of the MMR vaccine.
You can find more healthcare advice on the NHS Vaccine overview page.
Fire Safety
It's important that you take a look at your building's fire safety guidelines before you arrive, to do what you can to reduce fire risks. You can do this here, or take a look at our Staying Safe at University video.
To find out more about life here at Sanctuary Students, make sure you click through the Sanctuary Social webpages.
