We're looking forward to you staying with us!

We've put together this FAQs article to cover the main questions students are asking about their accommodations. Any information that isn't covered here can be found in the residents' guide for Cairnncross House.

Check them out below ⬇️

Will I always have access to hot water and heating?

Hot water is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our heating runs at certain times depending on the time of year:

Summer: 7:30 - 10:30 and 17:30 - 23:30

Winter: 7:30 - 10:30 and 14:30 - 23:30

Please contact reception if you find you have difficulty with your heating during these times.

How can I contact my reception?

During the hours of 5pm to 8am each night, there is a security guard available who should be approached with any security concerns.

Reception is open between 8am - 6pm, Monday to Friday. The on-site team can be contacted by telephone and email:

  • Tel: 0141 221 9334
  • Email: KHR@Sanctuary.co.uk
  • Address: Cairncross House, 20 Kelvinhaugh Place, Glasgow, G3 8NH

Outside of reception opening hours, there are Residence Life Assistants on duty to assist with any problems you may have or if there’s anything you would like advice about. They are managed by the Warden and are employed by the University of Glasgow.

What is my postal address?

Flat number
Cairncross House
Kelvinhaugh Place
Glasgow
G3 8NH

How will I collect my post?

Cairncross House accepts your mail and packages. You should check the mail list at reception daily to see if there is any mail for you. This can be collected at reception but you will need photographic ID with you.

Where are the laundry rooms?

There are two laundries on site. One on the ground floor and one on the third floor. Access is available 8am - 10pm, 7 days a week.

Machines are operated through an app or by card with charges and instructions displayed within each room.

How can I recycle?

Recycling facilities are available on-site, silver bins for glass and light blue/green bins for paper, plastic and cans.

Recycling boxes can be found in your kitchen, please use them and empty them regularly into the appropriate bins. Domestic rubbish should be disposed of using the green bins located in the dustbin areas in the car park. There’s a bin in the kitchen as well as one in your bedroom, it is your responsibility along with your flatmates to empty these regularly.

Note: Make sure you only recycle clean, dry, grease-free items.

How does bike storage work?

Bicycle storage is available on-site and you must register your bike at reception as soon as possible where staff can also give you more information. Failure to register your bike may result in it being removed from the bike shed.

Top tip: You should register your bike with the police as soon as possible.

Does my flat have cleaners assigned?

A light cleaning service is provided for kitchens and bathrooms, however you and your flatmates are responsible for maintaining these areas to a reasonable standard.

Top tip: Draw up a cleaning rota early on so everyone knows their responsibilities and your flat remains a pleasant and hygienic place to be. You will find a dustpan and brush and a mop and bucket in your kitchen.

What is the guest policy?

Visitors and Guests - are allowed to stay for a maximum of 3 nights but reception must be informed of their presence in case of an emergency event.
