Bristol Guide: International Supermarkets

Bristol is a wonderfully diverse city! Whether your craving a delicious dish from your home country or you want to try something different, there are plenty of places that you can pick up international food.

Whilst most of the big supermarkets do sell a selection of international foods, there are also many specialist supermarkets easily reachable from Frenchay and Glenside campuses.

Wai Yee Hong Chinese Supermarket

Selling: Chinese and Oriental ; Thai, Malay, Singaporean, Korean, Indonesian, Filipino and Japanese.

Wai Yee Hong is a family-run Chinese cash & carry and supermarket, they pride themselves in 'stocking authentic Oriental products and brands – exactly what you will find in kitchens throughout the Orient'

Alfu International Supermarket

Selling: / Middle Eastern / Turkish / Asian

They have a good selection of fresh fruit and veg, chilled goods, tinned good, spices and ingredients, there is also and a halal butcher onsite and they sell a good selection of organic foods. Alfu international has a dessert counter/coffee shop selling baklava, cakes and Turkish coffee. Yum!

Daily Asian Food Store

Selling: Asian

Daily Asian Food Store is a friendly family run Asian grocery shop. It may be small, but it's got a big selection of quality ingredients.

Location: 758 Fishponds road Bristol BS16 3UA

How to get there: Take the 48A towards the city from Frenchay or Glenside. It's located at the top of Fishponds so alternatively you could walk.

Polski Smak

Selling: Polish / Eastern European

Location: 711 Fishponds Road, Fishponds, BRISTOL, BS16 3UH

How to get there: Take the 48A towards the city from Frenchay or Glenside. It's located quite near to campus so you could walk or cycle.

Irie Box

Selling: Tropical Fruit & Veg and Caribbean food boxes

How to get there: They come to you! Order fresh fruit and veg boxes straight to your door. Please note that we do not take in perishable food in our post rooms, so you will need to arrange a time to meet the courier to receive your box.

Bristol Sweet Mart

Selling: Global foods / Asian / Afro-Caribbean / Organic foods

My favourite they have a good selection of fruit and veg, herb and spices and ingredients . Also has a deli counter which sells Indian sweets, snack and curries.

International Food Centre

Selling: International including Eastern Europe, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and the UK.

Dunya Supermarket

Selling: Mediterranean / Middle Eastern / Turkish

Dunya has a halal butchers in store and a bakery which you can pick up fresh breads & pide baked on site each day. They also have a baklava counter and olive counter - which I whole-heatedly recommend. In addition to this they have a good selection of fresh fruit and veg, chilled good, tinned good, spices and herbs.

Maliks Superstore

Selling - Afro-Caribbean 

They sell fresh food including fruit and veg, spices and cooking ingredients, salted and dried fish, fresh patties and there is also a halal butchers in-store. This shop also sells a good selection of afro-caribbean health and beauty supplies including hair and wigs.

Vietnamese Supermarket

Selling: Vietnamese

Location 400 Gloucester Rd Bristol BS7 8

How to get there: From Frenchay campus take the 70 / 71 towards the city. From Glenside take the 48a to Frenchay and then take the 70/ 71 towards the city.

Rajani Superstore

Selling: Caribbean/African /Asian

Rajani's is huge superstore that sell dry food goods only. Great for ingredients like rice, sauces, tea and coffee, sweets, herbs, spices. You can pick up wholesale items here at good prices, perfect for stocking up. You can also shop for personal care products, kitchenware and home-ware whilst you are there

How to get there: Take the 48A towards the city from Frenchay or Glenside, you'll need to get off at Royate hill and walk 5 mins from there.
