My UWE
Glenside Student Experience Coaches
What is coaching?
Coaching is a collaborative process that helps you to overcome your challenges, achieve your goals, and make the most of your university experience. We meet one to one either online or in person and we can talk about anything that is arising for you.
In the session, we will create goals based on what is important to you, and then make a plan together for how you are going to meet them. We can meet once or in an ongoing way to support you with accountability and staying on track.
We can connect you with a rich ecosystem of support and walk alongside you as you progress through your course. We are friendly, non-judgemental and supportive.
Common topics include:
- Adjusting to university life/transition from previous study
- Building confidence
- Planning and organisation
- Organising thoughts and gaining clarity
- Balancing home and uni life
- Time management and prioritisation
- Managing workload
- Coping with stress and overwhelm
- Overcoming barriers and challenges
- Connecting with UWE services
- Keeping focused and motivated
- Setting and achieving goals
- Preparing for the next level of study
Coaching is available to all undergraduate students, and we are available 5 days a week, Monday-Friday. We are not able to advise with assignments or academic writing.
Meet your coaches
Amber, Alex, Emma & Sabrina
Amber
Hiya! I’m Amber. I have a background in Youth Work and developing personal and social skills, as well as running adventurous activities. I’m passionate about helping people discover their full potential and creating a safe, supportive space for you to thrive in. I’m here to help you empower yourself, develop your organisational skills and build confidence. My coaching draws on finding balance and being explorative.
I love the outdoors and enjoy activities like climbing, wild swimming, hiking and just generally being in nature!
Alex
Hello, I am Alex and I have recently joined the team at Glenside. With experience working in the NHS, Local Authority, and training as a Social Worker, I am very excited to support students in this area and understand the challenges of this field. I am particularly passionate about supporting student placements; providing a space for you to share your experiences and explore what is going on for you. Being Neurodivergent myself, I empathise with navigating a Neurotypical world and can help devise strategies that are unique to you. I love running in the woods, dogs and dancing.
Emma
Hi, I’m Emma. I’ve been coaching students at Glenside since 2021 and have found it incredibly rewarding. My favourite parts of the job are getting to work with so many of you and hearing about your experiences. I used to be a college lecturer and have many years of experience supporting students in higher and further education, and I can help you break down your workload and create a plan to help you feel in control. In my spare time you can find me exploring the natural world (especially bird watching), going to gigs and festivals, and reading.
Sabrina
Hi, I’m Sabrina. I have been working as a coach for UWE since January 2023 and love helping students identify their strengths and building their confidence. Previously I have worked as a Study Skills Coach in Wales for Health and Social Care students helping them manage their academic work, talking through placement issues and collaborating with learners to help them stay motivated. Currently
I am training to be a Life Coach with The Coaching Academy and eager to apply the new tools and coaching approaches to help students achieve their full potential. Outside of work I love watching Bollywood movies/music videos, enjoy spending time with my 6 siblings, manage my own book club and I am also a carer for my mother.
What students say:
“[Coaching] really helped me to understand how to motivate myself and prioritise my work in a way that worked well for me!”
“My coach was incredibly helpful and supportive. So helpful to sit with someone and process my thoughts.”
“Coaching made me feel like a superhero”
