What can YOU do to help save the planet?
Reduce your carbon footprint:
By walking and cycling more. By reducing the carbon footprint, it has many advantages for the planet. Some of them include reducing the air pollution – which are mostly cause by cars and buses, it creates a need for more green space which encourage sustainability, it reduces the noise pollution which again is cause by cars, it also it encourages a better well-being and lifestyle. In Coventry there are many bikes which are encourages cycling.
Recycling and reusing:
Recycling can be done, by separating waste in the correct category. The main categories include glass, paper, plastic, and metal. Recycling plastic is beneficial because it means that less new plastic will be created which a positive thing for the environment because usually plastic is made from fossil fuels. Another benefit of recycling is that it protects the ecosystem and wildlife as no new raw material will be needed to be grown, harvested, or extracted. Recycling involves much less energy and therefore helps to save natural resources.
Reusing is a very cheap way to help the environment, it involves reusing things that throwing it away creating waste in the environment. It causes less to no pollution which is beneficial to the environment. Finally reusing is a fun way to be creative, for example using tin can as plant pots.
Cut down on food waste:
Linking with reducing carbon footprint, a way to help improve the planet is by reducing foot waste, this is done by buying what is needed. With reducing food waste, it decreases the amount of methane emissions from landfills. It lastly conserves energy and resources by preventing pollution involved in the growing, manufacturing, transporting, and selling food.
Volunteering:
In Coventry there are many volunteers scheme which focus on helping the environment. Such as panting tree – trees are beneficial for the environment because they take Carbon dioxide (CO2), while realising oxygen (O2). Another form of volunteering is by cleaning up the streets, getting rid of litter and recycling them in the right way, this way it doesn’t harm the environment and the oceans. For example, there are volunteer places which aim to help clean up the environment here in Coventry. For more information visit https://www.coventryrocks.co.uk/listings/coventry-clean-up
Writing to local MP’s:
The final method that we can do, to help improve the planet is by writing to local MP’s and encourage them to promote and use more renewable energy such as wind turbines and solar panels, in their future infrastructures or developments. Renewable energy help protect the plants because they produce energy without the use of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas and oil are bad for the environment as they produce pollution and harmful gases into earth’s atmosphere and destroy the ozone layer.
