Outdoor Sports to play with friends
Now that spring weather and warmer temperatures have arrived, it's time to venture outside. And with social-distancing requirements no longer in effect for small outdoor gatherings, you can finally return to parties, barbecues and all the other fun stuff we missed.
So gather up your friends and check out this list of some of the best games you can play outside.
1. Kubb Viking Clash
Kubb is a lawn game great for all ages because all you have to do is toss a wood dowel and try to knock over wood blocks. It's a little bit horseshoes, a little bit chess, incredibly fun for two-on-two play (though team sizes can vary if you like). And unlike a lot of the games, this yard game can be played even on super-windy days.
You'll need a reasonably spacious yard in which to play.
2. Bottle Bash
Bottle Bash origin story started with a fence post and a bottle: "Bet you can't throw that Frisbee and knock the bottle off!" This two-on-two game comes with two plastic posts, two plastic bottles that rest atop them and one flying disc.
The goal: knock that bottle off. Meanwhile, the defending team tries to catch the disc -- and the bottle, if you're able to hit it.
3. Cornhole
Cornhole is a popular game that makes a great outdoor team building exercise. The goal of the game is to throw a hacky sack into the hole on a board. To play cornhole, all you need is a wooden board with a hole and a couple of sacks. Simply split the group into teams and keep score of how many points each team gets.
4. Scavenger Hunt
Scavenger Hunts are one of the most popular outdoor group activities. To do a hunt, first create a list of clues, then choose locations to hide the clues. Ideally, the distance between clues should be far enough apart that teammates can dash between locations, however should not be so far that the hunt takes more than a few hours or tires out the team.
Give the group a set amount of time to complete the challenge, such as one hour or one week. Then, count up the number of clues each team was able to find or award the first team to cross the finish line.
5. Hiking
Hiking is one of the greatest activities you can do outside. You and your friends can hit the trail, check out the wildlife, and bond while taking in amazing views. Simply pick a path, pack plenty of water, sunscreen, a map, and snacks, and set out together into the wilderness. Feel free to stop at scenic overlooks to take pictures.
