Safe Spaces for LGBTQIA+ Students in Coventry
A safe space is defined as “a place or environment in which a person or category of people can feel confident that they will not be exposed to discrimination, criticism, harassment, or any other emotional or physical harm”.
As a student, there are lots of things you can do and places you can go for safety & support if you are part of the LGBTQIA+ community, both within and outside of the university. Here are some places that can help.

Coventry’s Students Union has a large community of both LGBTQIA+ students and staff and hosts several events throughout the year. The community also has a large selection of resources for LGBTQIA+ support in and around Coventry.

Coventry University LGBTQIA+ Societies
Join the LGBTQIA+ Society!
The LGBTQIA+ Society is a safe space for those who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual or those who are any other gender or sexuality. Memberships cost £5 per person and events and activities take place every week.

Join the Gender Equality Society!
The Gender Equality Society is about keeping the conversation of gender equality alive – and acts as a safe space for all students to amplify their voices. Memberships to this society cost £2 per person and events take place throughout the semester.

The Yard
The Yard is Coventry’s #1 LGBTQ+ venue, open until late 7 days a week. The Yard hosts several events throughout the week, including Open Mic nights and karaoke.

Glamorous Coventry
Glamorous Coventry is one of the largest gay bars in Coventry and is located next to the city centre ring road. The location is also open 6 days a week and offers food for both takeaway and delivery.
