How to stay organised
If you find it difficult to stay organised and are looking for some ways to help keep some order in your life, then you are in the right place!
It is normal for everyone to have sparks of chaos in their lives, especially when there's a lot going on. It easy to feel overwhelmed with tasks and projects, whether that is for personal goals or things for work/Uni. These simple tips will help you stay organized and be more productive, and they're so easy to implement into your daily routine.
1. Plan!
By taking some time to plan out your day, week and month can make a big difference. In doing this you will allow yourself to visualise exactly what you are going to do and when you are going to do this. try doing the following:
- Getting a diary or a planner - this is a great idea as there are many versions with different colours, layouts and styles out there to chose from and they come in a range of prices. (This doesn't mean you have to spend a fortune, just find something you are comfortable with using and that is practical for you.)
- Get a wall hanging calendar - Also available in different forms and styles, this will be useful when placed next to a clear working space to keep track of upcoming meetings, deadlines, and milestones.
- Write things down! - using post-its or a general note book. Sticky notes are generally very useful to have around and as they can stick to different surfaces, they are very convenient.
2. Tidy!
As well as planning what might happen, you need to organise and sort out what is currently happening. That means its time to re-order and gain control.
- Give everything a home - If you want a tidy desk, room and workspace then you MUST find a place for each item you have to live in...and if it doesn't have one then this could be a sign you need to throw it away.
- Having said that... you must also only keep what you need - prioritise what you use and want is useful in your area to maxise success and limit clutter and distraction.
- Declutter and be proactive - Once you have managed to get rid of some items you don't need, make sure to keep on top of your things.
And finally... 3. Motivation!
- Work hard - In this life one thing is certain, we need to work hard for things we want. Following these steps and a little hard work will allow you to organise your life better to be able to make the most out of your time and spend it doing things that are important to you.
- linking to the last point, don't procrastinate - I think we all know the feeling of when you are just about to start working and you suddenly think "Wouldn't it be such a good idea to go on YouTube and looking for some motivating music or listen to that one song you have stuck in your head". Then 2 hours later you are just sat watching a video of a cat playing the piano from 2007...
Anyway... You see my point.
Do try and stay focused :)
- To help with procrastination and reduce burn out, why not consider studying alongside a pomodoro video. The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method which uses a timer to break work into intervals. e. g. 25 minutes work, with a 5 minute break. The great thing about these videos is you can find them in many diferent lengths to suit you and your preferred learning style.
I hope you found these tips useful and might even try them yourselves, or alternativley if you know someone who might benefit from them, please feel free to share.
