Bute Park
Description: Just behind the Talybont university residences, this huge park, with the River Taff bisecting it, is perfect for a student getaway once or twice a week. It has rugby and football fields as well as running and cycling tracks. There are also countless beautiful picnic spots.

Hailey Park
Description: A northward continuation of Bute Park, Hailey Park is quite similar but also boasts a small calisthenics park for those interested.

Llandaff Fields
Description: Next to Bute Park, Llandaff Fields comprises multiple sports pitches, some of which are free and open to use while others are bookable. There are also several tennis courts that are open all year round and free to use. Like most of the other parks, there are running and cycling paths and nice picnic spots.

Roath Park
Description: For many, the highlight of Roath Park is the Lake with its quacking ducks and majestic swans, but the Botanic Garden is also worthy of a visit.

Opening times: The park and pleasure gardens are open from 7.30 a.m. – 30 minutes before sunset. The recreation ground is open 24 hours a day.

Heath Park
Description: The woodlands, ponds and wetlands at Heath Park house a diverse range of plant and animal wildlife, including the Great Crested Newt. There are swings as well for people to swing their worries away!

Thompson’s Park
Description: An under-appreciated park in Canton with a remarkable Statue of Joyance (a fountain sculpture by Sir William Goscombe John).

Victoria Park
Description: A popular park in Canton, Victoria Park is one place you could take your younger siblings or cousins if they come to visit Cardiff as it has a children’s water splash playing area!

Cefn Onn Park
Description: A massive park located on the outskirts of Cardiff, it is definitely worth a daytrip with its woodlands, ponds, flowering trees, mural artworks and much more.

Alexandra Gardens
Description: Part of Cathays Parks, Alexandra Gardens is located at the heart of Cardiff University’s Cathays campus. With its statues and fountains, including the Welsh National War Memorial, this gorgeous park is the perfect escape when there’s an hour to spare between lectures!

Gorsedd Gardens
Description: Also part of the Cathays Parks, Gorsedd Gardens is on Park Place and thus is right next to the Main Building and Students’ Union. Events take place there all year round, but the Winter Wonderland is arguably the most special!

Friary Gardens
Description: The third park that is part of the Cathays Parks triad, Friary Gardens is a small, formal, triangular garden with a unique bedding scheme perfect for flower admirers or for a quiet break when near the busy town-center.
