Using Airfryers in Halls
We understand that while moving to your new hall of residence, you would want to bring some kitchen appliances such as airfryers and rice cookers with yourself.
These appliances can pose a safety risk if used incorrectly, which is why it is essential to keep in mind some housekeeping rules mentioned below. You can also refer to another article that lays out regulations on how to use rice cookers safely.
Safety First
Makes sure you follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Always register a new fryer with the manufacturer. That way you can be contacted easily if a safety notice or recall is required. While the chances of a faulty product causing serious damage are small, the risk is still there and returning a faulty product or ordering its repair is very easy to do. Ensure the air fryer is compliant with UK safety regulations.
You must ensure that your rice cooker has a UK three pin plug. Travel adaptors that convert a two pin plug are not allowed as they have been known to overheat and cause fires. Do not use a UK travel adaptor.
Do regular checks of the plug and socket for burn marks, sounds of ‘arcing’ (buzzing or crackling) or if it feels too hot to touch.
Safe Use
If you notice a burning smell or any unusual noises, switch the fryer off immediately and contact the retailer and/or manufacturer.
Never put oil inside your air fryer.
Watch out for hot steam coming out of the fryer.
Never immerse the fryer in water.
Always wait at least 30 minutes before cleaning, and always follow the manufacturers cleaning guidelines.
Keep the power cords away from hot surfaces.
Always turn off the fryer at the socket when not in use.
Never leave the fryer unattended.
Don’t overfill your fryer – check the manufacturer’s instructions but typically it should be no more than two-thirds full.
Turn the handles away from the front of the cooker. This will reduce the risk of knocking it off the counter.
