High protein snacks to have on the go
Up your protein intake with these homemade, portable snacks 💪
Health and fitness has never been trendier. With more people hitting the gym, wanting to know more about their food and generally looking to be healthier, protein has been a popular topic over the last year. Instead of seeking out store-bought snacks, why not make your own?
Trail mix 🍇
A combination of dried fruits, nuts, grains (and sometimes chocolate), all you need is a handful of these ingredients for a protein kick. Pack them in a little Tupperware box and have a nibble while studying. You can find packs of these in Morrisons, ASDA and Tesco for around £1–2.
Greek yoghurt 🥄
Healthy and high protein, add your favourite berries, granola or nuts for a sweet snack during the day or simply mix with lemon juice and herbs to make it the ideal dip for your veggies.
Roasted chickpeas 🌰
Need to add more fibre to your diet too? Chickpeas are a delicious choice. Roast them for an extra crunch and eat as is, add your favourite seasonings or try making homemade hummus to pack with your sliced veggies to spice up your snacking.
Hard boiled eggs 🥚
If you're an egg lover, this snack is a must! Easy to take with you and simple to prepare eggs are filling enough to keep you going until your next meal while adding more protein to your day. Don't forget to add eggs-tra seasoning for even more flavour.
Peanut butter 🥜🧈
Such a versatile ingredient and a great source of protein, always keep a tub of PB handy. Pack a tub of celery sticks or sliced apples to dip or spread it on your morning toast and top with apples or banana to get in your protein and one of your five a day.
Protein balls 🍯
Costing anywhere from £1-2 for a small bag in your local supermarkets or available in bulk from brands like Holland & Barrett or Bulk - protein balls come in a range of flavours. To save some extra cash and make them to your own taste, try making them at home using your own protein powder like the video recipe above 👆
