Volunteering at University
Alongside your studies at university, there are many opportunities available to you to increase your employability and demonstrate personal development. One of the easiest to get involved in while at university is volunteering!
There are lots of projects to get involved in to suit all tastes, so use your free time wisely. You can volunteer through the university Career Development Service, the Students’ Union or with local organisations in Leicester (which can still count towards your university volunteering hours if you log them online).
Career Development Service
You can sign up for volunteering opportunities on the MyCareers website and even sign up for regular email communications about the top opportunities. You can log-in to MyCareers with you student IT account to browse opportunities and apply. It couldn’t be easier!
Plus, any opportunities you do through the university go towards the Leicester Award personal development programme and are added to your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) for employers to see when you leave the university.
You can get in touch with the volunteering team in the Career Development Service at volunteering@le.ac.uk.
Students’ Union
The Students’ Union (SU) also run a volunteering programme, where you can sign up for opportunities with organisations in Leicester. This includes volunteering with the SU itself and some of the student groups (such as Nightline or First Aid).
You can easily create an account with Students’ Union volunteering portal to browse and apply for opportunities and even log hours for other roles you’ve done. This goes towards an SU volunteering award you will receive when you finish your degree.
The SU can even help you to run your own volunteering or fundraising opportunities. You can get in touch with them at su-volunteering@le.ac.uk.
Community Volunteering
You can volunteer with other organisations in Leicester or nearer to home. We recommend services such as Do-it, which can show you opportunities in various sectors all over the country.
You can volunteer with other organisations and still log them with us, to go towards your total volunteering hours. Log your hours for your HEAR on this form from the Career Development Service.
